Meals On Wheels Programs

The Senior Hub Meals on Wheels program provides a hot, nutritious meal to people who are unable to prepare one for themselves.  With our two program options, unique to this area, we have the ability to serve not just the elderly, but people who are recuperating from an injury or hospital stay, or active seniors who are looking for the convenience of a delivered meal with the quality of one from a restaurant.MOWdelivery_logo

Meal deliveries are made Monday-Friday with a delivery window of 10:30am until 1:00pm.  Weekend options may also be available in your area.

Subsidised Meal Option – Available Monday-Friday Only

  • Clients must be age 60 or above and must be homebound; must also have difficulty preparing a main meal.
  • They are available on a contribution basis, based on income. No one is denied service due to an inability to make a contribution.
  • Meals are low in sodium, low in fat and diabetic friendly. They meet 1/3 of the daily nutritional requirements for a senior, and are cooked soft so that it’s easy to swallow.
  • Meals include a main entree, vegetables, bread, usually fruit and low-fat milk.
  • Meals are cooked fresh every day, and arrive hot at your door ready to eat.
  • In some cases, frozen meals are available in 5-packs delivered one day a week.

Delicious Deliveries – Available Monday-Friday with Saturday delivery available in some areas

It’s often said that Meals on Wheels is so much more than just a meal.  In many cases, our Meals on Wheels volunteer delivery driver is the only visitor our clients ever receive. MOW 03.08 B 015aDrivers provide a wellness check during each visit. If a driver does not have a client answer a door, emergency contacts are called to check on the health and welfare of that client.
In many cases, the driver’s quick response to a situation can be a major factor in saving the life of a senior.

The Senior Hub’s Meals on Wheels clients also receive special attention on holidays with special gifts, and goody bags filled with useful items like Kleenex, sugar-free goodies, “word search” books etc.

On Thanksgiving, members of two community churches deliver home-cooked meals to clients who will be alone and have no family or friends with whom to share the holiday.

During the Christmas holiday, the Meals on Wheels program facilitates an “Adopt A Senior” program. Clients with no family or friends nearby can apply for the program. On Christmas Day volunteers prepare and deliver home-cooked meals and deliver stockings and gifts to the registered seniors.MOW0308005
