Rural Meals on Wheels

The Senior Hub has developed a new program to provide nutritious meals to older adults living in rural communities along the I-70 corridor.  We met with officials from Adams and Arapahoe Counties , Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), Volunteers of America (VOA), and community leaders from these rural communities.  We have developed the best program possible and we would like to offer you the opportunity to participate.

Each week, all year long, the participants in the program, who must be at least 60 years old and live in Deer Trail, Byers, Strasburg, or Bennett, will receive a box containing five frozen meals.  The meals are low in fat, cholesterol, and sodium, and provide at least one-third of the recommended daily nutrition for older adults.  The meals are nutrient-dense and provide a high amount of vitamins and minerals without the added calories.  Volunteers from your community will deliver the meals and monitor the well-being of the more isolated program participants.  We wish we could serve hot meals but we cannot heat the number of meals that we need and keep them at a consistent temperature while we deliver them to your door.

This program is designed to provide good nutrition to older adults.  Priority will be given to those who have the most trouble preparing a good meal for themselves.  Participation does not depend on your income level.  There is no charge for the meals, but a voluntary contribution is always appreciated.  Services will not be denied if you choose not to contribute.
