Meals on Wheels provides a homebound person with a nutritious, hot, noontime meal as well as a friendly visitor. In many cases, our Meals on Wheels volunteer delivery driver is the only visitor our clients ever receive.

As an additional benefit, the drivers provide a wellness check on the client. The drivers contact the Meals on Wheels Program Director if a client doesn't answer the door, and she calls the client's emergency contact numbers. If none of these contacts can be reached, the police are called. In several cases, the driver's quick response to the situation probably was a major factor in saving the life of a senior.

Two different meal programs are available. Deliveries are around the Noon hour, Monday through Friday.

Special arrangements are usually made for Holidays when The Senior Hub, Inc. is closed. Senior Hub Meals on Wheels clients are fortunate to celebrate most major holidays in some special way. On HALLOWEEN each client will receive a "Trick or Treat Bag" filled with sugar-free items and additional items of interest such as a "Word Search" book, Kleenex, & "post-it" pad.

All clients who will be alone and have no family or friends with whom to share THANKSGIVING may sign up to receive a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal. Each client has a choice of white or dark meat. The dinner is prepared and delivered by a Westminster church congregation. They will also visit with each client to whom they deliver a meal.

Clients with no family or friends in the area with whom to share CHRISTMAS may contact the Meals on Wheels office. If they would like, a home-cooked Christmas dinner, a stocking, and a gift will be delivered on Christmas Day. The meal will be prepared by Meals on Wheels staff, volunteers, and individuals from within our communities.

There are no income limits, although a low-income client will take precedence when route space is limited when adding new clients. For more information, please contact Marita Hafner, Program Director, at 303/426-4408, extension 210, or send Email to [email protected]. You may also contact Kendall Felton, Program Assistant, at 303/426-4408, extension 209, or send Email to [email protected].

A wide variety of volunteer options are available and any assistance is always greatly appreciated.
